March Madness is upon us! For those who love College basketball and even for the casual fan - the lure of filling out a bracket sheet to pick which of the 64 teams will make it to the Final Four and the chance to play for the National Championship is almost irresistible.
Suddenly everyone needs to become an expert on which teams have all the elements to meet the challenges of each game to advance. To make it easier, all the teams are rated based on their won/loss record which is a reflection of each team’s talent and coaching. Of course that doesn’t guarantee success. Talent and coaching will only get you so far. Of the 11.5 million brackets filled out this year, only 273 were still perfect after the first round!
The teams that win the most consistently also have “all the tangibles”. They are the teams that are the most Reliable, Resourceful and Resilient. That means they make the least amount of turnovers, they are solid in the fundamentals of the game, they make adjustments along the way and find ways to win by doing all the little things plus they never give up if they get behind or get a bad break.
But the glue that holds all of those elements together is Trust. Every great team is built on it. Trust is the feeling of certainty and confidence that a person or an organization will not fail them. It’s the most important component of any lasting Relationship.
